On October 2 – 3, 2025 at the State Organization “Institute of Market and Economic and Ecological Research of the NAS of Ukraine” (Odesa), together with Kherson National Technical University, Higher School of Economics in Bialystok (Poland), National Institute for Research and Development in Marine Geology and Geoecology (Romania), Galati University “Dunărea De Jos” (Romania), International Hellenic University (Greece), Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece), Odesa National Economic University (online and offline ) the XIV International Scientific and Practical Conference “Revival of the maritime economy as a dominant of the project of national unification of Ukraine” was held.
The following representatives of the Institute delivered welcoming remarks: KHUMAROVA Nina, Deputy Director of the Institute, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine, Doctor of Economics, Professor; LAIKO Oleksandr, Deputy Director of the Institute, Doctor of Economics, Professor. The conference participants were greeted by the Head of the Department of Economic Sciences, School of Economics and Business Administration, International Hellenic University, PhD, Associate Professor Persefoni POLYCHRONIDOU and other invited guests.

At the conference, speakers covered topical issues of the revival of the maritime economy in the project of national unity of Ukraine in the following areas:
- The potential for developing research infrastructure for the maritime economy and blue growth;
- Modernization of business environment development management in the real sector of the maritime economy to strengthen the country’s defense capabilities;
- Consolidation of the natural resource potential of the national, regional economy and at the community level to restore the maritime economy;
- Building the agro-industrial capacity of the Ukrainian economy;
- Assessment of the consequences of military actions and investment support for the post-war revival of the maritime economy of Ukraine.
As part of the thematic sections, the Institute’s international grants teams presented their achievements during the period of project implementation, in particular the RESPONSE Project “Building Response Frameworks under existing and new Marine Pollution Challenges in the Black Sea” and the Project SturNet “Network for the Preservation of Sturgeon and the Sustainability of the Black Sea Basin Ecosystem” BSB00172.
On the perspectives for the research infrastructure development in the blue economy and the promotion of the UKRMARI initiative were reported by a member of the Scientific Committee of the National Council for the Development of Science and Technology, Head of the Department of Economic and Environmental Development of Coastal Regions, Doctor of Economics, Prof. Olga IERMAKOVA. In her presentation, she informed the conference participants about international support initiatives, with an emphasis on the contribution of the EU, individual member states and third countries, such as the United Kingdom and Switzerland, to the reconstruction of the research and higher education systems of Ukraine, including research infrastructure.

A meaningful report on the activities of the National Contact Point (hereinafter referred to as the NCP) of the European Union Framework Programme for Research and Innovation “Horizon Europe” was provided by the Head of the NCP, Doctor of Economics, Prof. Oleg RUBEL.

Other conference participants reported in separate sections on their achievements and research, in particular on the formation of an aqua-food cluster in the Ukrainian Black Sea region, the potential of artificial intelligence for research, problems of investment and innovative development of the maritime industry of Ukraine and prospects for overcoming them, rehabilitation and sanatorium-resort treatment in conditions of military operations, consolidation of resource potential, formation of Ukraine’s food potential, strategic imperatives of the revival of the maritime economy and prospects for the post-war restoration of the maritime economy of Ukraine.
The topics discussed during the sessions aroused interest among the speakers and discussions. Their applied nature facilitated the exchange of experience, information, and suggestions for raising awareness in academic circles, management, and government structures at various levels.
