The current strategic directions of the Institute’s scientific research and development are aimed at building a scientific and applied foundation for the strategy and tactics of sustainable socio-economic development of Ukraine, as well as new systemic solutions of a tactical and programmatic nature to strengthen the competitiveness of Ukraine’s economy. The Institute’s scientific work is largely applied to solving the development problems of the Ukrainian Black Sea and Danube regions.
To this end, the Institute:
- Determines the subject matter of its research in line with the directions listed above and submits it for approval, in the established manner, to the Department of Economics of the NAS of Ukraine.
- Puts forward proposals to the Department of Economics of the NAS of Ukraine on adjusting the approved research directions. The directions and subject matter are determined taking into account the Law of Ukraine “On Priority Directions for the Development of Science and Technology”, decisions of the General Meeting of the NAS of Ukraine, the Presidium of the NAS of Ukraine, the Department of Economics of the NAS of Ukraine, and the recommendations of the relevant problem-oriented scientific councils.
- Draws up, approves and implements research work plans, and resolves matters of their material, technical and financial support.
- Studies, analyses and summarises the achievements of world economic science and promotes their use in the practice of Ukraine’s socio-economic development.
It carries out:
- preparation of draft programmes for the socio-economic development of various territorial units, production enterprises and organisations;
- development of methodologies and draft legislative and regulatory acts;
- development of forecasts, scientific expert assessments, and the provision of consultations across all areas of its scientific activity.
- Organises, conducts and takes part in competitions of scientific works (projects, applications) and, based on the results of the competition, provides the necessary resources and ensures that the relevant research is carried out.
- Holds conferences, meetings, symposia, exhibitions and scientific schools, including international ones.
- Conducts information and publishing activities and establishes scientific publications.
- Holds competitions to fill vacant research positions and certifies the Institute’s staff.
- Trains scientific personnel through postgraduate and doctoral studies, attachment, and internships, including abroad, as well as through departments shared with universities and other forms.
- Establishes, in accordance with the prescribed procedure, specialised academic councils at the Institute for the defence of candidate and doctoral dissertations.
The Institute ensures a high quality of research, the systematic accumulation and generalisation of scientific results, the creation of conditions for realising the creative potential of its research team, and the social protection of its staff. In accordance with Resolution No. 60 of the Presidium of the NAS of Ukraine of 28.02.2011, the main areas of the Institute’s activity are:
- institutional factors in the development of the market environment;
- development of Ukraine’s transport and transit potential and the mechanisms for its realisation;
- institutional mechanisms for the greening of the economy;
- overcoming territorial disparities and modernising the management of socio-economic development in the southern regions of Ukraine.
Today, the Institute’s specialists conduct fundamental and applied research related to: developing the methodology for the economic use of marine-environment resources and increasing the economic and ecological efficiency of using the natural-resource potential, while ensuring the economic and ecological security of coastal regions; solving theoretical problems and developing scientific and practical recommendations for the implementation of market relations and market regulation of the economy; researching theoretical problems of the economics and management of nature use; researching theoretical problems of entrepreneurship development, increasing its efficiency under a transformational economy, and its impact on the socio-economic development of the region and the state as a whole; researching the socio-economic problems of coastal regions and building a competitive regional economy that takes into account the exogenous and endogenous factors of innovative development; and providing scientific support for the effective functioning of the transport-services market and the use of the national transport and technological system.
