The main scientific direction of the department is the theoretical and applied problems of the economics of nature management and the management of sustainable development of territorial economic-ecological systems.
Scientific directions:
- theory and methodology of balanced economically efficient, socially oriented and environmentally safe regional development;
- theoretical-methodological foundations and economic mechanisms for the greening of contemporary transformation processes in Ukraine;
- study of modern models of organisational-economic relations of nature management and the mechanisms of their implementation;
- development of conceptual foundations for modernising economic relations and shaping structural shifts in the forms of ownership of natural-capital assets;
- institutional foundations for building the organisational-management system of nature management.
Historical note:
The Department of Economic Regulation of Nature Management traces the beginning of its existence to the creation in 1976 of a research group within the Department of the Economics of the Sea and the World Ocean of the Odesa Branch of the Institute of Economics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR.
Throughout its existence, the department has repeatedly refined its research directions under the influence of the objective demands of the time and the realities of economic life; it should be noted, however, that, firstly, these were always the most acute economic problems of environmental protection, nature management and resource conservation, and, secondly, the subject of research remained practically unchanged: these were conceptual, theoretical, methodological and applied questions of the economics, organisation and management of environmental protection and nature management (subsequently — ensuring resource-ecological security), and of the development of economic systems at various levels of their hierarchy in various forms of manifestation — object-level, local, regional, sectoral and inter-sectoral complex formations, etc.
The further transformation of the thematic emphases of the department’s research is directed towards the scientific substantiation of a policy of institutional-organisational transformations in the sphere of nature management and, on this basis, towards ensuring the sustainable development and competitiveness of nature management in the recreational-tourism sphere, the agro-industrial complex and the development of urban agglomerations.
In total, over the period of the department’s existence, more than 59 monographs, 13 textbooks and 11 brochures have been published. Scientific and applied achievements have been reflected in more than 339 scientific articles.
Over the period of the department’s existence, 35 dissertations have been defended, of which 7 for the degree of Doctor of Economic Sciences. Two postgraduate students are currently studying here. The department employs 5 doctors (N.I. Khumarova, M.M. Petrushenko, H.M. Shevchenko, L.M. Cherchyk, O.S. Holikova) and 5 candidates of economic sciences (O.A. Vorobiova, Ye.H. Hordiichuk, K.O. Kostetska, O.O. Karpenko, A.P. Krivintseva).
