On 13 March 2025, researchers of the SO “Institute of Market Problems and Economic-Ecological Research of the NAS of Ukraine” took part in the third day of the Strategic Workshop of EMSO ERIC (the European Multidisciplinary Seafloor and water-column Observatory).
Presentations were delivered by:
Oleksandr Ivanovych LAIKO – Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, Deputy Director of the Institute for Research.
Olha Anatoliivna YERMAKOVA – Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Economic and Ecological Development of Coastal Regions.
The researchers presented Ukraine’s potential contribution to the development of marine research and international cooperation within EMSO ERIC, and also presented the concept of forming a national blue-economy research centre, UKRMARI, the developer and initiator of which is the SO “Institute of Market Problems and Economic-Ecological Research of the NAS of Ukraine”.
The event was moderated by the leadership of EMSO ERIC, in particular:
- Jorge Miguel Alberto de Miranda – Chair of the EMSO Assembly of Members.
- Ingrid Puillat – Director General of EMSO.
An important result of the event was reaching an agreement on signing a memorandum between the SO “Institute of Market Problems and Economic-Ecological Research of the NAS of Ukraine” and EMSO ERIC. This opens up new opportunities for cooperation in the field of marine research, data exchange and the development of the blue economy, facilitating Ukraine’s integration into the European research infrastructure.

Oleksandr Ivanovych LAIKO, Dr. Econ. Sci., Professor, Deputy Director of the Institute for Research;

In March 2022, the State Organisation “Institute of Market Problems and Economic-Ecological Research of the NAS of Ukraine” became a member of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). The network brings together more than 1,600 institutions from 137 countries — universities, research centres and institutes, and NGOs — whose activities are dedicated to implementing the Sustainable Development Goals at the local, national and international levels.
Thanks to membership in SDSN, the Institute’s researchers have privileged access to the online communication platform SDSN Mobilize, which makes it possible to find and communicate with other sustainable-development experts, exchange information about activities and events, and discover new opportunities for funding and scientific cooperation. The link for registering the Institute’s researchers on the platform is — https://sdsn.mobilize.io/registrations/groups/15313
Opportunities also open up for the cooperation of researchers within the SDG Academy, SDSN Youth, SDGs Today and SDSN TReNDS, for participation in the annual SDSN events — the International Conference on Sustainable Development (ICSD) and the Global Solutions Forum (GSF) — and in prestigious international events such as the UN General Assembly and the Conference of the Parties on climate change (COP).
On 16.10.2024, a meeting of the coordinators of JERICO-RI (an integrated pan-European multidisciplinary research infrastructure in the field of studying coastal marine systems and the blue economy) with new participants took place, where the State Organisation “Institute of Market Problems and Economic-Ecological Research of the NAS of Ukraine” and possible areas of cooperation with the consortium were presented.
Issues were discussed regarding the submission of an application by the JERICO-RI consortium for inclusion in the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI), which is Europe’s strategic instrument for developing European scientific integration and strengthening its international relations.
The meeting was attended by staff of the SO “Institute of Market Problems and Economic-Ecological Research of the NAS of Ukraine”:
Nina Ippolitivna KHUMAROVA, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine, Dr. Econ. Sci., Professor, Deputy Director of the Institute for Research;
Oleksandr Ivanovych LAIKO, Dr. Econ. Sci., Professor, Deputy Director of the Institute for Research;
Olha Anatoliivna YERMAKOVA, Dr. Econ. Sci., Professor, Head of the Department of Economic and Ecological Development of Coastal Regions.
