Every year on June 8, the world celebrates World Oceans Day, a date intended to highlight the crucial role of oceans and seas in sustaining life on Earth and the importance of their conservation.
Oceans produce a significant share of the oxygen we breathe, regulate the climate, support biodiversity, and provide food and resources for millions of people. At the same time, they face numerous threats, including pollution, overfishing, climate change, and the degradation of natural habitats for aquatic organisms.
For Ukraine, the conservation of the ecosystems of the Black Sea and the Danube River Basin is of particular importance, as they play a vital role in maintaining the ecological balance of the region. Addressing these challenges is one of the key objectives of the international project SturNet BSB00172, in which the State Institution “Institute of Market and Economic & Ecological Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine” participates as a project partner.
The project brings together research institutions and organizations from the Black Sea region to strengthen cross-border cooperation in the field of water resource protection, conservation of sturgeon species, and enhancement of environmental awareness among local communities.
On World Oceans Day, we encourage everyone to support the responsible use of natural resources and contribute to the preservation of aquatic ecosystems, upon which the well-being of present and future generations depends.
